Yao Surong, who was a hit across China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in the 1960s and the original singer of the song “Not Returning Home Today,” has lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for many years. On July 11, Nancy Sit updated her social media IG, posting three rare photos with Yao Surong.
Nancy Sit wrote: “Last week, when I was in Malaysia filming for Astro’s classic song competition program, I happened to run into Sister Yao Surong. She even came over on her own to greet me—I was so happy! We haven’t seen each other in a long time. We chatted for a bit, and it really brought back memories of the days we performed on stage together. Sister Yao Surong is still just as beautiful and energetic as ever, full of good fortune! So wonderful!”
In the photos, 75-year-old Nancy Sit is wearing a red beret and a red floral top, standing next to Yao Surong with a very happy look, almost like a fangirl. Yao Surong, who will turn 80 at the end of this year, is dressed in a pink top with black pants, standing tall and looking quite spirited. Compared with photos from early 2024, her figure appears noticeably fuller.
According to reports, after her performance at the “30th Golden Horse Awards” in 1993, Yao Surong retired and has declined high-paying offers to return to the stage. Her family originally opened a bank, so she comes from a very wealthy background and has never needed to worry about money. In early 2023, her disciple Liu Mingzhu, known as “Little Yao Surong,” revealed in an interview with Taiwanese media that she had privately asked her mentor to return to the stage, but Yao Surong replied that she doesn’t need to work so hard for anyone, and besides, she isn’t lacking in money.
