The newly appointed Pope Leo XIV recently met with journalists from various countries at the Vatican for the first time.
The Pope called on journalists to focus on reporting the truth to promote peace and stated that communication helps create societal culture.
He said that peace begins with the way we view, listen to, and speak about others. People's methods of communication are crucial, and we must abandon language and imagery related to war, moving away from a wartime mentality. One of the most important challenges is to promote communication that avoids using harsh language imbued with ideological or partisan bias, keeping in mind that communication is not just about message transmission but also cultural creation.
He also mentioned that many journalists around the world are still imprisoned, calling for their release and the protection of press freedom and freedom of speech.
Additionally, Pope Leo XIV described the development of artificial intelligence as presenting new challenges to defending human dignity, justice, and labor. When used in work, AI must be employed responsibly, ensuring it benefits everyone and thus serves all humanity. Without ethical reflection, the development of artificial intelligence will present risks.
