US President Trump announced on the 2nd that the United States will hold talks with Iran on the afternoon of the 3rd.
On his way to Andrews Air Force Base, Trump made this announcement to the accompanying media. When asked why the originally planned military strike was canceled, Trump said, "That would have been a massive strike operation," but allies including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar requested the action be called off. They believe the US and Iran can reach an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz and may also reach an agreement on nuclear issues.
Trump said that the Iranian side also requested the US cancel the planned strike and stated: "Obviously, they don't want to be attacked. They know the scale of this attack because they saw the preparations underway. Now, we are in dialogue with them through negotiations, starting tomorrow afternoon."
"It would have been the largest-scale attack since World War II... Now we just want to see if we can negotiate a deal."
Trump indicated that an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to traffic may be close, and he will continue to promote the denuclearization process in Iran.
