At around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday morning, while a Malaysia Airlines aircraft was preparing for takeoff at Japan's Narita Airport, someone reported to the fire department that "black smoke was seen coming out from the rear of the left engine of the Malaysia Airlines plane." Runway A, used for departures at Narita Airport, has now been closed.
Live footage shows that, at around 11 a.m., the affected aircraft was stationary at the scene, surrounded by several fire trucks and ambulances, with staff carrying out relevant procedures.
According to a report by Japan's TBS Television, police indicated that no injuries have been confirmed so far, and the black smoke has already dissipated.
Narita Airport Corporation explained that the flight in question was Malaysia Airlines flight number 89, originally scheduled to fly from Narita Airport to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. However, as the plane was preparing for takeoff, a malfunction occurred.
