Thai caretaker Prime Minister Anutin said on the 17th that casinos located within Cambodia are not under Thai judicial jurisdiction, but "if the relevant venues become covers for scam operations, Thailand is obliged to take action."
He made this statement after attending the "International Conference on Global Partnership to Counter Online Crime" (IC-GPOS) banquet, when asked by media whether the recent bombing of Cambodian casinos by the Thai military was related to anti-online scam operations.
He said that Thailand has not listed border casinos in Cambodia as bombing targets, and casinos within Cambodia are not under Thai judicial jurisdiction.
However, Anutin also emphasized that if casinos or related facilities are used as covers for scam operations, the Thai side will regard them as scam centers and include them as targets to be dealt with.
He pointed out that in a joint declaration signed by Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur this October, both sides agreed to withdraw troops and weapons from border areas, jointly conduct humanitarian demining operations, and cooperate to combat fraud activities and scam organizations, “therefore, the fight against scams is carried out under the framework of the Thai-Cambodian joint declaration.”
In addition, Anutin said that China is grateful to Thailand for extraditing multiple major criminals, and the cooperation between the two parties shows that these people are unwelcome.
He said: “Why would we harbor them? Let their countries of origin handle and deal with them, where more thorough investigations can be conducted.”
The "International Conference on Global Partnership to Counter Online Crime" was attended by 338 people from 58 countries and international organizations, including Myanmar, China and other countries sending officials to attend. Cambodia, which recently had a border conflict with Thailand, did not send any representatives.
