A judge in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a temporary restraining order on the 23rd against the Trump administration's policy prohibiting Harvard University from admitting international students, requesting to "maintain the status quo" before a hearing is held.
Judge Burroughs stated in a ruling that the temporary restraining order motion submitted by Harvard University indicates that immediate and irreparable harm would occur if the voices of all parties are not timely heard. Therefore, the court's request to maintain the status quo until the hearing is justified, and the plaintiff's motion is approved.
Information from the court's website shows that the hearing is scheduled to be held at 10:30 am local time on May 29 in the court.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced on the 22nd the revocation of Harvard University's Student and Exchange Visitor Program qualifications, prohibiting the university from admitting international students. Earlier on the 23rd, Harvard University sued the Trump administration over the policy.
According to Harvard University's admission data, around 6,800 international students are enrolled for the 2024–25 academic year, accounting for approximately 27% of the total student body. They come from over 140 countries and regions, with the majority pursuing graduate programs.
