Mindanao Earthquake: Foreign Ministry Says No Malaysians Affected

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as of now there have been no reports of Malaysians affected by the earthquake in Mindanao, Philippines.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement today that since the earthquake is still in its early phase, the Malaysian Embassy in Manila is actively coordinating with relevant local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of Malaysians in the affected areas.

"Malaysians residing in or traveling to the affected areas in the Philippines are strongly advised to remain vigilant. If you are in coastal areas, please immediately move to higher ground and strictly follow all evacuation and safety instructions issued by the Philippine authorities."

The Foreign Ministry, through the embassy, is closely monitoring the latest developments following the strong 7.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred at 7:37 a.m. today.

The statement noted that the Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued the latest tsunami warning for coastal areas of Sabah following this earthquake.

The Foreign Ministry will continue to closely monitor the situation and will release updates promptly upon receiving confirmed information.
