The central processing platform for the Kenli 10-2 oilfield group development project, managed by China National Offshore Oil Corporation, has departed from the Shandong Qingdao construction base, marking the completion of all land engineering. This oilfield development platform will now enter the offshore operation phase. The platform features several pioneering technologies and has set new records for the size and weight of offshore oil and gas platforms in the Bohai region.
As reported by 'Science and Technology Daily', Chinese media quoted Shen Liubing, project manager at the CNOOC Tianjin Branch Engineering Construction Center, stating that the Kenli 10-2 oilfield is, to date, the largest lithologic oilfield discovered in Chinese waters, with proven geological reserves of crude oil exceeding 100 million tons.
He pointed out that the first phase of the project’s central processing platform is a multifunctional marine platform that integrates production and living facilities, with three stories and eight legs, a height of 22.8 meters, and a projected area equivalent to nearly 15 standard basketball courts. The design weight exceeds 20,000 tons, making it the heaviest in weight and largest in size among offshore oil and gas platforms in the Bohai Sea area.
The oil quality varies significantly across different blocks of the Kenli 10-2 oilfield, so the central platform is designed with two systems for thermal recovery and cold recovery. It is equipped with more than 240 key devices and is one of the most complex production platforms in terms of process flow in the Bohai area. Shen Liubing said, “The project has conquered key technologies for lightweight design of ultra-large marine platforms, and for the first time domestically applied 420 MPa high-strength steel to the construction of the upper modules of marine oil and gas platforms, maximizing 'slimming' of the platform while paving the way for large-scale application of domestically produced high-strength steel in marine engineering.”
Yang Jinju, project manager of the Kenli 10-2 project at CNOOC Engineering Qingdao Company, introduced that the platform also integrates with the DeepSeekR1-based engineering and production integrated smart assistant, enabling intelligent production, energy consumption management, and safety management, aiming to build an innovative offshore low-carbon smart platform centered around artificial intelligence.
