On the 7th, U.S. President Trump stated that he will not lower the 145% high tariffs imposed on China to restart trade talks.
He told reporters at the White House just minutes before the Federal Reserve announced holding the interest rate steady: “No (withdraw or lower tariffs).”
Trump also hinted that the high-level trade talks to be held between the two countries were initiated by China.
He said: “They say it was our initiative? I think they should go back and check their files.”
Announcing the First Trade Agreement with a Major Country on the 8th
Additionally, Trump stated on social media “Truth Social” that at 10 a.m. US Eastern Time on Thursday (8th) (10 p.m. Malaysia Time), the United States will hold a press conference in the Oval Office to announce a major trade agreement with “a respected major country.”
He said: “Tomorrow at 10 a.m., a large press conference will be held in the Oval Office to discuss a significant trade agreement reached with a representative of a respected major country. This is the first of many agreements.”
According to The New York Times, the major country involved is the United Kingdom.
