Deputy Minister of Finance, Lin Hui Ying, said that recently, there have been AI deepfake technologies used online to impersonate her, Housing Minister Nga Kor Ming, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Liew Chin Tong, and Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching in fake videos attempting to scam the public.
She urged the public to remain vigilant and not to believe false information online, emphasizing that the government has never organized any investment groups or offered courses on stock investment.
“We have instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to collaborate with META to quickly take down all related false content to prevent more people from being scammed.”
She called on everyone to verify information sources more thoroughly and not easily trust unknown links or unverified messages. When encountering tempting investment opportunities, one should think calmly to avoid falling into scams due to impulsive decisions.
She also emphasized that everyone should protect their personal information to ensure their assets' safety.
She made these remarks during a 'Yisi Year Spring Festival Reunion' jointly organized by the Penang Chief Minister’s Special Coordinating Office and the Democratic Action Party Bagan Parliamentary Committee on Sunday (January 26).
Lin Hui Ying stated that the Spring Festival Reunion is an important tradition in our Chinese culture. It is not only a time for gathering but also an excellent opportunity to showcase social cohesion.
“Additionally, the Penang Chief Minister’s Special Coordinating Office, in conjunction with this reunion, recently awarded 102 Spring Festival gift packs to underprivileged students in 14 Chinese primary schools in the North Seberang Perai region, demonstrating our government’s emphasis on education and concern for parents’ burdens.”
She continued by saying that in the new year, they will continue to focus on the education sector, ensuring every child has equal access to education. Besides supporting the development of Chinese primary schools, the government also focuses on independent Chinese secondary schools and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College. Starting from 2023, the government allocates RM40 million per year to TAR UC for three years, totaling RM120 million.
“Transport Minister Anthony Loke, when handing over the funds this year, specifically emphasized that educational funding should not be affected by political factors. The investment in educational funding is to support more young people in receiving quality education and thus cultivating more outstanding talents for the country's future.”
She noted that the unity government not only fulfills its promises and implements various plans but also ensures that every measure can effectively benefit the people.
During the event, Lin Hui Ying announced a grant of RM50,000 as a fund for the Bagan ‘Yisi Year Spring Festival Reunion’.

The Member of Parliament for Bagan, Lim Guan Eng, stressed that although Bagan is not a unity government constituency, the government has never forgotten the residents there and continues to care for the local people’s well-being and stands with the public.
He praised Penaga state assemblyman Dato’ Seri Richard Ramesh Vasantha Kumar for his good work in this regard, showing responsibility and caring for the electorate.
He said politicians striving for the people's welfare can express any opinion, but it should not be incendiary. Such statements are pointless and should instead be accompanied by performance and actions to serve the people.
Penang Chief Minister’s Special Coordinating Officer Lai Kuan Ping noted that in the last state election, unity government component parties held three state assembly seats but now only hold the Penaga state constituency.
He revealed that during the reunion event that evening, they would distribute 450 Spring Festival red packets to senior citizens and vulnerable groups within the constituencies of Bagan and Tasek Gelugor, along with the red packets distributed by Ramesh Vasantha Kumar, totaling 650 red packets and a box of mandarin oranges.
