(Bandar Seri Begawan, 3rd Jan) Baiduri Bank continues to move towards sustainability, with its credit and debit cards now made from eco-friendly material bio-sourced polylactic acid (PLA).

This initiative, launched in collaboration with technology and innovation leader Thales, marks a significant step for the bank in integrating sustainable practices into banking.

The bank's Head of Retail Banking, Lin Jian Zhang, stated, "Our transition to bio-sourced polylactic acid cards reflects our ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact and integrating eco-friendly practices into our business. By leveraging Thales' innovative solutions, we aim to offer customers an environmentally-friendly payment option that aligns with our values of sustainability and corporate responsibility."

This transformation began in the second half of last year, starting with debit cards. All new card registrations and renewals for existing cardholders will receive bio-sourced polylactic acid cards, with the goal of gradually replacing all Baiduri credit and debit cards with this new eco-friendly material. The bio-sourced polylactic acid cards are petroleum-free, non-toxic when incinerated, biodegradable within six months, meet international quality standards, and retain advanced payment technology for secure and seamless transactions.

To reduce physical waste, Baiduri Bank actively promotes paperless banking solutions. This includes digital services such as online banking, electronic statements, and its latest innovative product, Baiduri Tap2Pay. Baiduri Tap2Pay is an NFC-enabled solution that turns merchants' mobile devices into POS terminals, allowing customers to make contactless payments easily.

In addition to switching to eco-friendly credit card materials, Baiduri Bank has implemented various initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, such as energy-efficient operations: The bank has implemented energy-saving measures in its branches and offices, including the use of LED lighting and energy-efficient appliances. The bank's headquarters on Gadong Road complies with the BCA Green Mark scheme requirements, which is an international benchmark for best practices in environmental design and performance, community engagement: Baiduri Bank participates in river and beach clean-up events, along with other community activities that focus on sustainable practices, cultivating a culture of environmental management among employees and customers.
