(Bandar Seri Begawan, 11th) Representative of Brunei Lim Teck Fook Holdings Sdn Bhd's family, Lim Yu Mei, stated, “Today, we gather here with utmost respect and gratitude to witness the presentation of the 2025 Lim Teck Fook B.E.M Dato and Datin Hong Mei Chih Memorial Fund for Chinese School Construction and Merit/Underprivileged Student Scholarship Awards. First of all, on behalf of the family, I would like to express my deepest thanks to every guest attending this ceremony.
Standing here, my heart is filled with gratitude, but even more with a sense of great responsibility. This is not merely a ceremony, but a heartfelt remembrance and solemn fulfillment of our late father and mother's wishes. On this occasion, we are also holding a launch event for our late father’s memorial book, in hopes of presenting and passing on his spirit of charity and love more completely.
Time passes, and the torch is passed on. Our late father and mother devoted their lives to Chinese education, firmly believing that ‘Education prospers the nation.’ This charity, carrying our parents’ great love, has entered its thirtieth spring. It has long since surpassed being mere financial aid, becoming a warm mark within Brunei’s Chinese community, continually nourishing Chinese education and supporting generation after generation of underprivileged students in their academic pursuits.
Looking back to 1996, our late father and mother made a grand wish: to let the light of education illuminate the future of every hardworking child who comes from an underprivileged family. Resolutely, they used the strength of the family to build this bridge to dreams. They firmly believed that knowledge is the most solid ladder for changing one’s destiny, and that education fairness is the cornerstone of social progress. As our late father often said, ‘The true value of wealth lies in giving others the courage to change their destiny.’ This perseverance is also a vivid reflection of the Lim family values passed down for generations: ‘loyalty and filial piety as the family’s foundation, valuing education and kinship.’
The fifty thousand Brunei dollars donated by our family today is but a modest gesture to inspire greater acts. We sincerely hope to gather more strength from the community, to build greatness from small beginnings, and to join hands in good deeds. We believe that every addition of love will light more hope for Brunei’s Chinese education, and that this great charitable cause can be passed down forever.
